How can I treat wooden cooking utensils?

Kathleen H. asked: I have several wooden with a beautiful grain that I use for cooking . However, after I wash them, they look very dried out and colorless. Should I rub oil (olive? canola? vegetable?) on them and let it soak in for a couple of days?

I used a cooking pot to bail out some really dirty water, I washed it 5 times, is it good to drink out of?
